It is now recognized that all nonprofits go through several stages of development: founding, growing, maturing, and reinventing. An organization that is not evolving and is stuck in one of the stages of development is normally doomed to failure. Therefore, knowing what stage your organization is in and taking steps to move it to the next phase is crucial to keeping it on the road to success. This session will explore the following topics:
- The various phases of a nonprofit's development, and how to assess what phase your organization is in.
- Warning signals that your organization is in need of change, and how to address these signals.
- Managing power struggles and turf battles that inevitably result when an organization is going through change.
- Enlisting the support of staff and other stakeholders in the transition process.
- Effective ways to measure the success of a transition.
You will walk away from this session with concrete tools to build the capacity of your nonprofit through transition. This session is intended for board members, executives, senior staff and human resources managers.
